How will a new Labour government, Mayors & Councils work together to deliver active travel? This was the question we explored at Labour’s 2024 Annual Conference in Liverpool. Over three days we met with hundreds of MPs, Mayors, Councillors and delegates.Our presence at conference included:
Conference event – ‘How can a new Labour government, Mayors & Councils work together to deliver active travel? ‘
On Monday evening we discussed how Labour councils and a Labour national government can deliver fairer, greener streets that work for our communities.
Speakers outlined the benefits of active travel with practical examples of Labour politicians leading the way on this topic. The line-up included
- Simon Lightwood MP – Minister for Transport
- Cllr Clyde Loakes MBE, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate and Air Quality – Waltham Forrest
- Rezina Chowdhury – Cabinet Member for Sustainable Lambeth and Clean Air
- Chris Boardman – Chair, Active Travel England
- Laura Laker – Journalist



Conference floor – On the floor we met with Mayors, Councillors and MPs and discussed how much of a cornerstone active travel is to the public health, transport and social justice agendas as well as the political challenges of enabling active travel.



Sunday Ride & Walk,
On Sunday Lillian Greenwood – Minister for the Future of Roads joined Simon O’Brien, Greater Liverpool’s Walking & Cycling Commissioner to explore how joining up a national stategy with local ambition could look like. Despite torrential rain, a group left from the Pumphouse and explore Liverpool’s new infrastructure.
